This conforms to Ben Thompson’s Aggregation Theory, the stand out example being Amazon (and possibly Apple.) While I find Thompson’s relentless pimping of this theory as tiresome it’s hard to argue against in this context.

I’m not sure that Amazon’s dominance in Ecommerce will be challenged anytime soon. They still account for a tiny fraction of the total retail market and have brilliantly enabled a 2-sided market that favours many small retailers that can find new markets using Amazon’s platform.

The challenger might be AliExpress. I find their active recommendations annoying by frequency but delightful by relevance to my interests.

There’s a long way to go on this one...I’m in for the ride.
